Right now, I ride a 350 KTM, which I think is pretty much the ultimate bike for an older experienced rider or a newer smaller rider. If I was on a limited budget, i would buy a Honda XR 250 or 400. I wouldn't go too big. You could even get away with a 125 or 200. Guys in my ward make the mistake of buying a bright shiny 450 and one or two rides later, they are all dinged up from tipping them over so much. Unless it is very important to ride the road to the dirt, I wouldn't buy a street legal bike, too heavy, KTM EXC excepted. A recluse autoclutch is a bonus, makes any bike much easier to ride. Favorite loaner bike in our ward is a Kawasaki kdx 200. Old bike, but runs great and easy to ride.
