and other effective role players. The last few years BYU has had more 4 star rated recruits come through the program than almost every school in the nation save the top 8 to 12 depending on how you count.
Moreover, BYU passed on several players who are now playing leading roles or will soon play leading roles at top 100 programs in Utah (e.g.s Rawson, Collette, Brenchley, Conner Toolson). i continue to believe it is absurd to think roster talent is a problem here.
Combination of injury misfortune, misjudgements on recruiting choices, misjudging roster potential leading to transfers out, and the game changing faster than coaching has been able to adjust might be important contributors to disappointing results.
Recruiting may well become more difficult in future years if BYU continues to underperform its roster talent.
Rose has the brains if he has the will. He fixed the defense this year and completely lost the offense.
The excuses used do not compute for me, i.e. players are young, have not played together long, and don't stay for 4 years.
Randy Bennett lost every starter a few years back, was picked to finish 6th in WCC, yet ended 3rd with the new group in their first year. Then he went on to win 29 games and tie for first the next year. There are many other such examples of course.
Also, complaining about not having 4 year players is no different than most top 50 programs. If you have a program of top players today, they tend to move on early.
