I grew up on a farm and we always had shotguns and rifles that were easily
accessible. Neither my cousins or myself ever used them for anything other than hunting, target practice, or shooting critters and birds. We always had a healthy respect for guns. I think it is a great idea to take kids shooting and hunting. Let them kill something when they are young so they realize that, if I point this thing at something and pull the trigger, whatever is on the other end dies. When you have that experience it changes the way you look at and handle guns. Having said that, kids are kids and unfortunately accidents do happen, sometimes because of carelessness and sometimes because of horseplay.

However, as a parent living in the city I see no need to have my guns accessible to my children. When it is time for us to go shooting or hunting they can come out but otherwise i see no need to have them accessible.
