BYU vs the MWC (BYU had a huge competive advantage against almost all of the schools). Only 2 schools out of all of the MWC even come close to BYU's recources and recrutinng advantages (TCU and UTAH). This helped Bronco win games in the MWC.
Then, the first few years of Indepedence, we played weak schedules (weaker than what we are playing now). Holmoe said he needed time to create better Indy schedules. This helped Bronco win games.
Now, compare that situation to the situation at Virgnia:
Virginia's peers are the ACC schools (not BYU, obviously). Virginia has no competitive advantage, and is basically on par with most of the ACC schools (behind obvious National powers, like FL St., Clemson, Miami).
Besides playing and padding his win total with G5 OOC games, Bronco won't be able to pad his wins against inferior opponents in his conference anymore. Virginia isn't like BYU was in the MWC.
Bronco probably needs to get Virginia competitive in the ACC, or else he might lose his job. He hasn't done that yet (his tenure there is still young).
