Jimmer's freshman year...
...Rose had a really short leash with him and instead favored the steady yet extremely unremarkable play of low production Ben Murdock. Rose tends to favor guys who don't make mistakes even if it means they don't produce much of anything while on the floor rather than higher risk/reward players.

It took him a while to build trust in Jimmer but I think what did the trick for him was the MWC Championship game vs UNLV and the TAMU game in the NCAA tourney, watching Jimmer vs UNLV and TAMU, he was pretty good as a freshman vs their length and athleticism and showed the ability to step up in big games while Murdock was completely useless in those games.

That 33-4 run by Gonzaga in the WCC title game was so brutal and painful to watch (we were so helpless) yet when out of sheer desperation coaches turned to DAstrup and he helped spark a 12-0 run for BYU. Maybe that's finally his UNLV or TAMU moment (like Jimmer's freshman year) where coaches finally quit worrying about his potential mistakes and instead focus on the tangibles and intangibles he brings to the team.
