A single article in a San Diego paper--by the SDSU stringer--started the conversation about Gonzaga's imminent departure to the MWC. A couple of writers in WCC and MWC cities wrote follow-up stories, but really only quoted the first article. Comments from Hair, Few, Gonzaga AD, and Holmoe were consistently nonchalant, almost bored: "Yeah, we've talked, but we're always talking...". Rose said he's heard of this for a couple of years now.
The San Diego writer then doubled down, claiming the soup was nearly boiled and the presidents would vote last week during the MWC tourney, or next month after the Final Four...or...
So, where are the follow-up reports? WCC and MWC tournaments were actually held in LV over the last 10 days, with WCC & MWC officials and low-level administrators, school presidents, ADs, coaches, boosters, players and writers from every school carousing together in meetings, restaurants and watering holes. There were hundreds--maybe thousands--of encounters between those with inside knowledge, ideas and passionate opinions and reporters anxious/desperate to write an interesting column or blog post.
Zip, zero, nada; the silence is thundering.
Methinks there's no there there. Y'all can go back to sleep now.
