Why would Dave benefit from saying they aren't real? It's in BYU's best ...
...interest for everyone in the WCC to believe that that talks are real, even if the truth is that Gonzaga is just posturing.
Gonzaga (and BYU) want every WCC school to start to realize, "oh crap."
That helps BYU and Gonzaga. So of course Dave will say "those talks are real." He wants to send a message to rest of the WCC also.
