According to Sagarin, the power 5 in college basketball are the Big 12, ACC, Big East, SEC, and Big 10. Not only is the Pac 12 not in the top 5, but they are significantly closer to #7 than they are to #5.
And this is not an anomaly — the Big East is almost always better than the Pac 12. So it’s silly to talk about a P5 in basketball when a supposedly non-P5 conference is consistently in the Top 3 or so. And when #7 contains one of the most dominant programs of the last two decades, along with two high seeds in the current tournament.
BIG 12 = 85.29 85.31 10 ( 1)
BIG EAST = 83.60 83.69 10 ( 2)
ATLANTIC COAST = 83.29 83.17 15 ( 4)
SOUTHEASTERN = 83.23 83.19 14 ( 3)
BIG TEN = 81.20 81.42 14 ( 5)
PAC-12 = 78.78 78.51 12 ( 6)
AMERICAN ATHLETIC = 77.17 77.23 12 ( 7)
MOUNTAIN WEST = 75.99 75.62 11 ( 8)
MISSOURI VALLEY = 74.82 74.96 10 ( 9)
ATLANTIC 10 = 73.06 73.37 14 ( 10)
WEST COAST = 72.56 73.13 10 ( 11)
