and we haven't been as successful in those games as we'd like. Mind you, we don't play a full P5 schedule but it's certainly better than a G5. Using our lack of big program success as an Indy then what if we were producing the same results in a P5 conference? Would people be wanting out then? I mean, if it's not about the money then do people really think that we would drop to a G5 just so we could have a better record more frequently?
Look, being in a P5 doesn't mean that we'd immediately be a better program. The same is true for us as an Independent. Playing different teams every week and not getting the continuity of preparing for the same teams every year makes it tough to be great week in and week out. It's taking us some time to get used to that but in the end we'll be fine. The money is absolutely worth it and the performance (with the exception of last year) is on par with what we were doing in G5.
If anyone thinks that we'd be 10 game winners every season in a P5 then you're kidding yourself. We could do it as a G5 but we'd only play 1-2 big programs a year vs. 3-5 like we are as an Indy. Get used to considering an 8-5 record as a "good season" because should a P5 opportunity come along that's what we could expect for the first few years, and probably every year for the most part. You have to give the same allowance to Independence and actually be a fan and not jump ship and scream that the sky is falling because of one bad season.
Give Indy some time to play out. Debating it's sustainability on opinions is pretty silly. The facts support that we're at least performing like a G5 but making 3-5 times as much.
