Last week, The NCAA Transfer Working Group recommended that the transfer rules be amended removing the requirement that the transferring student-athlete sit out for a one-year, providing that the athlete:
1. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0-3.3 or higher. The Group meets again this month and will likely establish the GPA benchmark.
2. Be academically eligible to transfer.
3. Be on track to graduate within 5 years of entering college.
The proposed changes will apply to any athlete, including freshmen.
The Group will next consider the reccomendations from the Committee on Acedemics and incorporate those into their proposal to the NCAA Council. The legislative timeline could make the changes effective by 2019-20.
