They would be finished with the regular season before the summer was even over. I would be ok with shortening the season by 20 or so games but $$$$$ is the reason it won't change. The players make more money so the players union won't want that. The owners make more money with a longer season so they won't want that either. 

I do think that baseball is the hardest to watch your team play regularly because it's hard to commit 3-4 hours a day for 162 days. I always catch the box score to see who did what but it's a rarity for me to commit to a lot of baseball games unless it's the playoffs and then I do what I can to watch each inning of each game.
