My first marathon was at the end of my first Ironman
I disagree wholeheartedly that there is anything fun in that. I had a good swim, had double-flatted in the Ironman and then got to tramp through my first marathon.
It was painful. Yet I did it again and again. Midway through an Ironman you lie to your body and tell yourself, you won't do it again, and then the next morning you sign up like an idiot for the same race.
