Like fighter aircraft on an alert apron.
That is why I quickly learned to associate the back-in-to-a-parking-space-with-a-civilian-car thing as young guys just trying to be cool.
P.S I was an Imagery (photo) Interpreter in the Marine Corps and we learned to interpret fighter aircraft parked facing the runway, in aprons at the end of a runway, as being aircraft in an alert status, ready to be scrambled.
