Some recommend not even counting calories when you start, just make sure to count carbs. You'll find that with fats you get satiated faster. I counted calories from the start though, because I wanted to see quick results to keep me motivated. With the amount of fats I ate, I did not feel hungry all the time. If I ever did decide to eat extra, I always made sure that it was keto food, never extra carbs.
There was about a week at the start where I felt pretty awful mentally and physically. They call it the keto flu, and it's your body reacting to not having the carbs it's used to. But soon after that I felt great, much better than I did before I started.
