I hear this rebuttal often. And it's garbage. Arbitrary rules are not good for anyone. Especially in an environment where you want to empower people to think freely. Do you really want a student body of sheep, willing to obey the most frivolous of rules? I'd much prefer students with a backbone, who can stand up against ridiculous, archaic policies. By your logic, BYU could make any rule they wanted (how about no one can wear red on campus?), and you would say, "Well, if you want the education bad enough you'd do it." Yes, many would. But that's not the kind of future leaders of the church I want at this otherwise magnificient institution. This is college, not boot-camp.
