Grade inflation: I was asked to teach a Masters level course at a western
university as a fill-in adjunct because the regular professor has a family emergency. It's a summer 8 week long course.

I received the syllabus and course outline today. All the students have to do in this course is write two 5-page papers - Double spaced. That's it. really - that is all. Plus, both papers are personal reflection papers that have only minimal connection to the course readings. There is a massive reading list. However, a quick glance at the course and any student will easily see they have no real need to read any of it.

I'm pretty confident my daughters 8th grade social science course is more rigorous and worthwhile than this course. The longer I've been in higher ed the more I see people around me lowering the bar and raising the prices.
