Careers in linguistics, languages, etc.
My missionary son has really loved learning new languages (his mission has several languages in it and he is striving to learn many of them along the way - at least basically).

He has grown in a passion for this. He had planned on some sort of engineering degree post mission- but was asking me what sort of careers there are in languages. I am not an expert on this in the least, but thought maybe some in the vast array of cougarboarders know of things that can be pursued along this way.

Here is his request "So I have been thinking a little about what I want to do for College/Career after my mission. And I know I have a lot of time (he is about half way done) but I have been thinking about this one thing. So since being here, I have discovered a love for learning a language. I love it so much and I think that I am kind of good at it. So I am thinking I might want to do that for a living/ study it. But I have no idea what kind of job or work that might mean. So you have this magical community called cougarboard and some friends at BYU so I was wondering if you could ask around a little bit of what I could do."

So- I am honestly not the best person to answer this as this is out of my realm of expertise- but any ideas where this might lead. Only things I can think of are diplomatic corps, military, academics, and business.- but that is only in generalities.

The main language he has learned is not a very portable one- but does have roots to learn many other languages.

Thoughts?
