BE-WHY-YOU All-American
When I got back from my mission, I worked in the warehouse at a well known
company that sold daily planners and did business seminars. I worked in a section of the warehouse where we put together kits with these daily planners that they used at the seminars. It was a good job that paid decent money for a college kid. Anyways, prior to me working there, my brother had also worked there about 4 years prior. When I got hired, my brother in law worked there, my next door neighbor, his brother in law, and his cousin all worked there as well. We all worked in the same department. There was a guy that still worked there that had been there when my brother was also working there. This guys name was Dave.

Anyways, in our department everyone had their own work station area where they would do their daily tasks. My work station was two down from Dave. Dave was a nice guy, but I discovered quickly that he had a horrible case of Tourrettes. I had been warned by HR when I was hired not to be offended, that it was medical condition, blah, blah, blah. My brother also told me about it, but never really told me how bad it was. My first day at work I was humming along minding my own business, when out of no where Dave just blurted out the loudest tirade of foul mouthed words you can imagine...and then when right back to working like nothing had happened. This would occur a handful of times a day, whether we were in the warehouse, or the break room eating, etc. Out of nowhere, and with no warning, Dave would just spout off stuff that would make a sailor blush. Seriously, there were words and combinations of words that I had never heard before in my life...and I didnt live sheltered childhood.

I worked with Dave for almost a year before leaving for a different job. This would happen everyday we worked, and from what I understood it was something that had occurred daily over the 5 years Dave had worked there. Some days it was worse than others. Again, everyone knew about it. He was that loud. HR would get complaints from certain people, but most people just accepted it since it was Dave's condition. I wondered how Dave ever made it as a missionary with his his outbursts.

One day, just after I had give my two weeks notice, Dave and I were working at stations right next to each other. Dave turned to me and said, "Can I tell you something, Ive never told anyone?" "Sure", I replied. "Dont tell anyone, but I dont really have Tourettes. Never have. I just like randomly yelling out cuss words to freak people out. I told HR it was a medical condition and they never questioned me or made me bring in a note."

So here is a guy that for the last 5 years had just been randomly yelling out profanities whenever he felt like it, wherever he felt like it. I never told anyone else. I left two weeks later and Dave quit and went to work elsewhere a few months later. Up until the day he left, I was the only who knew.
