"move into the mainstream" may be too strong
I think the church will stand by the proclomation on the family, but I also think that several church policies (such as the one regarding children of gay couples) that have not been cannonized, could soften a great deal. The church could potentially be much more friendly to LGBTQ issues in terms of policy without bending cannonized doctrine.

An example of this in my mind is how women have been discussed in reference to the priesthood and share of voice in the church for almost a hundred years now. So what is different and what is the same after all of this time? Women still are seen as having a different gender role with respect to family and church leadership than men, and still do not hold the priesthood. On the other hand, local governing councils, while still being presided over by a priesthood holder with keys, are equally comprised of women and greater care is being taken to ensure equal share of voice to women in church council settings. Policies and teachings, such as those regarding women who work full time or wear pants to church, have been adjusted such that they are seen to be less restrictive or discriminatory toward women. It is still a topic of discussion among LDS progressives, but is less of a lightening rod to the general world population than it was 40 years ago.

I could certainly see something similar happening in the church relative to LBGTQ issues. Frankly, I am very much in favor of opening our door wider and more welcoming in every way to every population, within doctrinal constraints. I know that cannonized doctrine exists that would prohibit gay marriage for eternity, but I hope that the church can/will be welcoming in every other possible way to all of God's children.
