He's only partially incorrect. In some cases it makes sense, but it is more expensive overall than buying.
I don't begrudge someone that sees a vehicle as an ongoing expense and is willing to pay monthly to drive. If you're that type of person and are going to be getting a new car every couple of years anyway, a lease might be a good option. That being said, it is more expensive and I wouldn't lease personally.
