Not being in a MLS market is probably part of it (Columbus & DC are 3-4 hours away). Also, they're big into
players "FIFA Ratings" so they're not impressed by an MLS midfielder being rated say, 67. Instead, they look up to the +85 rated players that play for Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern, City, etc. Kids (and adults) are much more interested in superstars and the MLS doesn't have those (other than the semi-retired Zlatans & Rooneys that come over).
MLS just feels minor league in comparison to the big leagues.
