a competitive advantage over what other teams were doing. I have heard those words from his own mouth several times so apparently this blogger is saying that Lavell simply lucked into greatness.
BYU had a competitive advantage not just because they passed the ball, but because of their schemes and play reads and call switching mid play. They had VERY disciplined receivers that could get to the spot and be open and go get the ball when it was thrown. They recruited linemen that would catch on to the blocking schemes easily. The O line guys were always the best students. They also had some pretty good QBs that made names for themselves at BYU and in the NFL. You don't think those skills gave BYU a competitive advantage?
Seems hard to believe that the major schools were sending coaches to Provo to learn techniques and schemes unless they felt it would give them a competitive advantage.
This blogger just doesn't get it.
