Best advice I was given: My a moderate sized home that has all you like/want in
a home. Then get a bigger yard for the kids and family.

My current home is 2,400 Sq Foot on a 7,000 sq foot lot. Our goal is to move into a 3,000 - 3,500 Sq Foot home with a bigger backyard.

My wife grew up in a 6,000+ Sq Foot home and though it was nice having a big home she just remembers always cleaning it, and her dad fixing something in the house somewhere every Saturday.

The point is, my wife didn't like the large home but was very grateful for what she had and what her parents provided.

I, in turn, grew up in a single parent home that was 1,600 Sq Foot. Was easy to keep clean and had a decent sized yard.

Together we both came to a conclusion on the size of house we want, but both want a good sized yard for family functions and get-togethers.

Each person is different and their likes, family dynamic, and financial situation should dictate what they want/need but, IMO, get a moderately sized home with a good sized backyard.
