Not to be lukewarm about it...
But I think something in the middle is best. Ultimately, college is and should be an investment in your own future. As such, kids should have some “skin in the game” and be paying some portion of it.

That said, college is also crazy expensive, so saddling kids with heaps of debt to start their adult life doesn’t quite sit well with me. I think parents should sit down with their kids and talk through these things— how much can be afforded, what are the loan options, what does repayment look like with those loans, etc.

As a point of reference, I paid for the overwhelming majority of my schooling (I think my folks paid for the first semester after my mission).
