Yesterday I saw our 2 top recruits play vs each other. Tim Baldwin and Miguel
Sarabia. In between watching my 14 yr old son play.

My observation for what it’s worth:

Both are ahead of where Charlie our OH Freshman was at this same point. He’s a big 6’8” guy so who knows where he’s at today.

So, it’s a great thing that either a current player or one of these 2 will step up for us next season as a starter. Hard to imagine Storm or Cyrus still as starters.

Tim seems to be a bit more polished, higher Volleyball IQ/tools. His team won but they were just a better overall team. His serve was inconsistent.

Miguel is a bit more athletic, explosive and fiery. He has more upside IMO as he gets more experience and develops as a player if he has that capacity to improve and grow. No doubt Tim is also a hard worker and ultra competitive, no knock on Tim.

I think having Jaylen as a coach on the SO CA High Performance International Team has given us exposure to other athletes and recruits. Tim was on this team. Unfortunately, the Ohio State asst. coach took his spot. I’m not sure if US Volleyball rotates coaches or how they get in those positions. High Perfromance Teams are the top level “All Star” team for all players in So CA and then compete against other teams.

I think we’re stacked for the next 2-3 seasons but the other programs as someone noted the other day added a lot of other Top 20 players.

949 ended up beating Tim’s Team yesterday (Charlie played on this team at Boys Jr National Championship last year) and a lot of the current 949 players are going to UCLA and others:

I didn’t see any BYU coaches there but saw all other programs represented. May have missed seeing them but doubt it. I am concerned if we didn’t have a presence or maybe no official hires so it’s just Shawn at this point. That’s not good planning though, so hope they get this dialed in for July 4th week where all the top club teams attend the Jr National Championship in Phoenix. All but Jaylen were there last year.
