and most likely explanation (which might put Utah in a bad light), you'd rather believe that "Utah haters" would try to keep them from going to the PAC:

1) as if the average BYU fan has some ability to do that, and
2) as though that has happened before. How many times have BYU fans prevented the Utes from joining a P5 conference again?
