A recent study found that open floor plans (ie no cubicles) in office settings
are worse for productivity than traditional cubicle arrangements. Some of the reasons why have to deal with our desire for privacy. They foud that rather than collaborate more, workers collaborated less because they didn't want to disturb or be disturbed. This often involves workers putting on headphones. Also, open floor arrangements instill a bit of paranoia because everyone can see what is on your monitor.
