That happens. When QB play was the major roadblock to success in 2012...
...Doman ended up taking the fall for Riley Nelson's failings at QB even though Bronco certainly played a major role in the dysfunction that resulted with sticking with Riley so long in the season even though he clearly was hurting the team with his play. We had maybe the greatest defense ever in BYU history (certainly up there in the discussion) and wasted it going 8-5 while losing to teams like San Jose St, etc.

Bronco went on record all season verbally supporting Riley in bad game after bad game and was very involved in the decision making to play him at such a diminished capacity but in the end Doman was hung out to dry and fired over it. On the surface that seems pretty cowardly and chicken-crappy but it's how the game is played.

In the case of Kalani firing Ty, there's a general belief that Holmoe hired Detmer, not Kalani, so in this case I would think Kalani gets a pass in firing him to bring in someone of his choosing. The offensive results were certainly bad enough to warrant it. In the case of Bronco firing Doman, Doman was his hiring decision and therefore all Bronco's mistake and certainly didn't show any ownership on his part. He totally passed the buck and made his boy Doman the scapegoat for Riley.
