So you think a true freshman is going to go on the road and beat Arizona, Wisconsin, washington, and Utah? Frankly, it doesn't matter what QB we use. The collective talent level currently will prevent us from being competitive in any of these games, and throwing a true freshman into that schedule would likely be disastrous.
I don't trust Mangum either. I think his is soft and mentally fragile. He doesn't appear to be a leader. But I don't think it's wise to start a true freshman in a new offense with a first year coordinator against this schedule. That's a recipe for 4-8. I think Mangum can get us to 6-6, which should really be our goal this year.
