It is, and people actually think they are dating and in a relationship with
Someone they have never met in person. I’m involved with a few divorce groups, both religious and non religious and there are hundreds of people who talk about their dating someone or in a relationship with someone who when pressed they have never met them because they are out of state or country. Yet to them they are in a real, committed relationship. They ignore any advice or warning, and without fail nearly all of them come back as some time with a story of being duped by them. The scammers pray on the desperate or mentally ill. It’s brutal but people just keep falling for it because they long for someone that sounds too good to be true. Loneliness, especially due to death or divorce, is just too overwhelming for some people, and widows are by far targeted more than anyway because of life insurance and inheritance involved.
