It isn't limited to Mormons. People tend to settle where they are comfortable...

When I worked in St. Louis my boss lamented to me that he had trouble keeping good engineers for more than a couple years at a time. He would look to west coast or east coast to find strong people, but they would only stay a few years before heading back west or back east.
