“Black” can mean African, African American, those born in the US, those not, those who came as slaves, those who didn’t. etc. It’s all encompassing of so many meanings.

Same with “white”. It can mean immigrants from Europe, or early settlers, those who crossed the Atlantic and helped colonize America, pioneers, those born in the US or not, etc. This country was colonized by those groups of people. “White” is all encompassing just as “black” is.
