I have no clue how some stores are run like this. Sounds like a top down problem... My area manager would have never left my store, and I most likelywould have been fired if my store was even run half this bad.
Of course, my store was either #1 or #2 in speed and survey scores every month. Only losing out occasionally to the guy I trained to run his own store. Eventually though, 60-70 hour weeks on 36k salary with bonuses up for 42k became enough.
All that being said, I would never eat at a KFC.
