He was being pursued by a constable in England for preaching.
The constable sicked his dog on Parley. Parley knew he couldn't outrun the toothy bulldog. As the dog neared him, Parley mimicked the constable, goading him on to chase after the assailant as Parley pointed off to the horizon. The dog flew past Parley. He bailed and the Constable and his dog were none the wiser.
