Yes but it is a legitimate excuse... and the only one...
Politics, culture, research institution all have nothing to do with college athletics, so if they got over their biases they could add BYU tomorrow. Non Sunday scheduling would be a logistics nightmare outside of football. Utah doesn’t like Sunday games because the attendance goes down by half but they just have to deal with it.
If political feelings softened BYU could come in for football only because that is the sport where Sunday play doesn’t matter, but it is a deal breaker in other sports.
