It's easy to make the argument that Germany is the birthplace of electronic music thanks to Kraftwerk. It persisted as a center through the golden age of synthpop--there has never been a stake dance where they didn't play Alphaville, and Camouflage put out the best Depeche Mode songs this side of, well, Depeche Mode.
