Some of you will remember my story of a terminally ill child who had a final wish to meet some of his heroes from the BYU football team. Although that wish never came true one year ago today he received this video from the team.

We started that season full of hope and excitement, and as the season wore on, Cougarboard and BYU fandom increasingly became disenchanted with the team. But Kevin never did. In the midst of treatments for his severe pain we would have daily talks about the team. Kevin still loved the players, loved BYU and was a Cougarfan for life.

On October 18th last year, Kevin passed away. Although only 19 years old, Kevin lived a full life full of service, love and friendship. For his funeral he requested his pall bearers to wear BYU blue ties, and during his eulogy, his uncle shared his love for the Cougars for all in attendance.

As the season is about to began I want to remind everyone that this team is full of young men who, like us, are imperfect. This season may not meet our expectations but let’s remember to be the type of fans that stick with our boys through thick and thin, the type of fan that Kevin was.
