BYU had the players and scheme to win.... but dropped passes/missed assignments.

That is on the players. I coach soccer. There is only so much a coach can do. If a player misses an open shot, or shoots directly at the goalie, that's on the player. He's been coached and has practiced what SHOULD happen. There were plenty of drops that Killed Drives.
