Brock Huard says BYU is on the right track with Kalani’s rebuild/remake of..
...the football roster. He says a few years ago he did a BYU game and had a conversation with Bronco where Bronco said if BYU was ever going to win a National Championship the only way they could accomplish it was by playing uptempo on offense to such a degree that they were running it faster than anyone else.

Brock remembers thinking that this was a crazy notion because BYU has never been a place that attracts the kind of speed in the quantity it would need to be able to successfully out-uptempo everyone and make it work. He felt the key to success at BYU would be what Kalani is doing now, focus on power football, big guys in the trenches with TE’s and FB’s and that these were the kinds of guys BYU could recruit well because they’ve done it successfully in the past.

When you look at the game vs Wisconsin, 15 freshman and 12 sophomores played prominent roles in the game, many of them in starting roles. Across the OL we started 3 freshman and a sophomore (to go with senior Austin Hoyt) and I think Kalani is putting together a really solid foundation that is sustainable and one that won’t be dependent on one or two guys with once in a generation talent/ability to be successful.
