Here’s what I see on TV, but those of you in the stadium might have a better perspective:
1. On passing downs, Mangum drops back, looks downfield, doesn’t see anybody open, throws to outlet underneath.
2. When he has thrown downfield, his passes have been accurate - thrown where only his receiver had a chance to make the catch - but the passes are being dropped, or the receivers are well-covered.
3. The exception to #2 is the Cal game where Mangum tried to force the ball into his receivers a little bit and threw some errant passes. I believe coaches told him to play more conservatively after that and not to risk turnovers.
4. I believe #2 is true, because I haven’t heard the commentators say so-and-so was open, but Mangum didn’t see him, or anyone produce film showing where Mangum is failing to see his receivers when they are open. It seems to be simply a case of the receivers not being able to get open downfield.
5. The offensive line/blocking scheme has been tremendous for the run game, but not so great for the pass game. The pocket has been collapsing a lot faster than you’d like to see, and Mangum seems to buy the most time rolling out. He’s having to scramble too much.
6. I’ve seen Mangum throw enough sharp, really accurate passes this year that were simply well-defended to make me think confidence in his ability to deliver the ball isn’t the problem.
