initially, until he got rocked a few times that first year. I think the Utah bowl game was the best evidence of that - not the same QB that beat BSU and Nebraska. He got rocked in the Michigan game several times (the initial hits?), then recovered and had some nice performances, followed by mediocre performances (17 pts vs SJST, 16 pts vs Mizzou), then a couple great performances vs Fresno and USU (where he got rocked again, (like all BYU QB's vs USU), then inexplicably played like a bad HS QB vs Utah in the bowl game. BYU did come back, but due to a combo of great defense, great rushing, and some other breaks that made it close in the end.
But, that type of inconsistency suggests intermittent brain injury with varying degrees and lengths of recovery. That is until the last two years when CTE from repeated slaps to the turf (?poor Oline recruitment by Bronco?) finally took it's toll, combined with the other injures to his legs, significant weight gain in 2017, and what appears to be an undisclosed / denied / mum injury to his throwing arm that has really changed his mechanics. Just too much to overcome, but I'm glad that the coaches have finally decided that the rest of the players on offense do not need to keep languishing until Tanner graduates. Love the guy, but not per any fault of his own, he just is not capable of finding open receivers and making decisions as well as he used to, and as well as Wilson demonstrated last night - in his first game!
