RE: Respectfully disagree with #1
I respect your opinion as well, but it takes 6-7 seconds to sprint to the end zone on kickoffs, if a D1 Football player can't do that 4-8 times a game they probably shouldn't be on the field and you are talking about 65 yards vs. 45 yards. Are you really trying to tell me that extra 20 yards affects a players performance? It doesn't and I want to see a player finish vs. coast. Little things like this tell you a lot about how a team is conditioned to respond when they are tired and fighting in a close game late in the 4th quarter. Mental toughness and the drive to go 100% even on something as simple as a touchback absolutely factor into this as a player. It is something they should take pride in and if they don't want to expend energy there is always golf.

As I mentioned, discipline, effort and mindset are things that BYU needs to have an edge and lack of this does show at times between the whistles. Yes it is a very small part, but every small part contributes to the big picture and the big picture right now is incomplete.

To counter your point, lets use El Bakri as an example. He has to cover 6 kickoffs today and got maybe 15 snaps on offense. Running 65 yards vs. 45 would not affect his ability to contribute on offense when you look at the offensive line with very little rotation and expending a much higher level of effort in the trenches than he does on coverage. If you can demonstrate how this has an adverse affect on a player or is wasted energy I will gladly re-evaluate, but in 30 years I have never seen it on the field.
