I played classical piano for many years but always wanted to play Billy Joel etc
Yeah, great, I can play Mozart and Beethoven. Even a few Rochmoninoff tunes. But as a kid all these people went on and on about the virtues of classical music and how playing Queen and Billy Joel wouldn’t train me as a pianist.

Well guess what, now I’m 34 and guess how many people have ever given two turds about my classical training since I turned in my college applications? Zero.

So now I’m trying to learn Bohemian Rhapsody and Piano Man. I can do the piano parts fine enough but it feels awkward for me to sing and play at the same time. Can’t quite get it. Maybe I just need to get used to it.

Just venting. At this point I just want a fun hobby and think some pop tunes would be more fun than these heavy classical tunes.
