What any one school lacked was enough money

Look, ESPN is hemorrhaging money. The Big 12 got NCAA to break their rules. This was a draw-draw scenario. No new teams to split the pot, plus the continued dominance of Texas and Oklahoma. That's what the Big 12 is, and will be until Texas gets greedy in 2023.
