Don't condemn somebody because they weren't as sensitive as they should have been. There's too much of that today.
While he should have been more sensitive, he most certainly wasn't trying to be insensitive. We don't need to zero in on somebody like a bunch of lawyers in a courtroom because they didn't say something the right way. I knew what he was trying to say.

When my wife and I learned we couldn't have children, almost everybody tried to make us feel better by saying really stupid stuff. I don't know how many dozens of people over the years said to me (with big smiles on their faces), "Just apply for adoption! As soon as we applied my wife got pregnant!" They didn't know our situation. They didn't know that it was 100% impossible for us to have our own children. But as much as their comments bothered me, I never hoped that those individuals would never be in a position of influence over the two children my wife and I eventually adopted.

We're too darn quick to jump down people's throats in our society for not saying things in just the right way. (If anyone doubts me, just ask President Oaks if anyone told him that he could have been more sensitive about the things he said in his last conference address.) The seriousness of a lost life should obviously lead us to be careful with how we say things, but the CBer under attack wasn't trying to make light of the tragedy.
