The core issue was that Bronco never tried to integrate Ziggy into the game
at Dline until an injury forced his hand. In retrospect, Ziggy was a 99 talent. The guy playing ahead of him was an 80 talent. Most coaches at least see what Ziggy has to contribute in a game, particularly since Dline is the easiest position to learn.

Bronco's philosophy was all about being assignment sound. Bronco trusted the starter ahead of Ziggy to fulfill his assignment. It was the safe choice. The players who would give full effort and attention to their assignments always played over more talented players. Ziggy could have excelled at a minimum in game one of his senior season. He probably could have started blossoming as a junior if the coaches had tried to work him in.

Bronco deserves credit for developing Ziggy, but the fact that Bronco had to be persuaded to give him a walk on spot and wouldn't play him except in a minor role until his hand was forced is an indictment of Bronco's philosophies.
