I don't know why any band or performer chooses to do halftime shows. I get that they're supposed to be used for publicity reasons, but they're pretty much a no win situation for the group. And with the social media mob at the ready for any potential slip up, they're just asking to get skewered.
If they sing to a recorded track they get slammed for lip syncing. If they sing live they get slammed for terrible sound mixing.
Imagine Dragons had the lead singer's vocal track up way too loud to the point where it was hard to hear the music. Which is unusual because typically you can't hear the singer at all during live shows like these because the music is up too loud. On top of that, there's just no excuse for how Lil Wayne performed.
Prince's halftime show during the Superbowl is the only performance that I can remember being not just good, but absolutely spectacular. The guy killed it and no one has lived up to it since.
