Read something about that last week saying there are 2 types of tidiness. First ones are those
who allow things to get messy then spend a significant time cleaning up. The other are those who clean as the go in life. I prefer being a clean as you live but probably lived more like the first. Husband and I talked about how to make a switch to be more like the second. I'm more committed than him but we'll see how it goes. So far, I've had the dishwasher loaded & run each night before bed with all the counters cleaned off in kitchen and family rm straightened back up & making bed each morning. We're not to where we need to do floors every day but it already feels better. We'll see how long it lasts.
I think like everything, it would take some real concerted effort but can be done just like changing any established habit.
