and your poll is flawed because those aren't really the options and the purpose of the wall isn't just to make someone turn around and go back. Certainly it would be nice if it worked that way, and maybe with some time it will sort of work that way, meaning people will know it is futile to try so they quit trying but the real purpose is to slow them down.

I've fenced in plenty of prisons and military bases, people still manage to escape from prison and they still manage to get onto military bases despite those security measures being in place. But it is in vastly reduced amounts from what it would be without them in place. Both of those perimeters, prisons and military bases, are still patrolled, they still have cameras and they still have motion detectors, just as this proposed wall would have.

So the real purpose is to make it slower and more difficult for people to get over, around, through, or under and that allows for the other security measures to go into action. The person trying to get through gets picked up on a camera, a motion detector goes off, etc. and while that person is spending time trying to get over the wall then the actual border patrol has time to get to that location and stop them.

That is how it works, that is what we try to do at those secured facilities I mentioned before, just make it slower and more difficult so that actual humans can respond and stop the incursion.
