The Great Lakes Navy Bluejackets won the 1919 Rose Bowl. In WWII, lots of
Military training schools had teams play college teams finished ranked. The Iowa Pre-Flight Seahawks finished #2 in the 1943 AP Poll and #6 in 1944. In fact, most of the 1944 top 20 teams were military teams, including 5 of the top 6: Army, Ohio State, Randolph Field, Navy, Bainbridge Naval, and Iowa Pre-Flight.
